Soft Computing is the fusion of
methodologies that were designed to model and enable solutions
to real world problems, which are not modeled, or too
difficult to model, mathematically. These problems are
typically associated with fuzzy, complex, and dynamical
systems, with uncertain parameters. These systems are the ones
that model the real world and are of most interest to the
modern science.
Recently, the methodologies of Soft
Computing such as neural networks, evolutionary
algorithms, fuzzy set, rough set, hybrid systems, etc have
been employed in various applications in the area of
astronomical and geophysics data. Approaches based on soft
computing have been shown to be advantageous compared to
classical approaches, in particular when classical solutions
are hard or impossible to formulate and analyze.
The aim of this special session is to
provide updated overview of the latest trends and
developments in the field of soft computing in
applications to astronomy, astrophysics,
and geophysics.
